Picarbutrazox is an antiparasitic and antibiotic agent that belongs to the group of natural products. It has a broad spectrum of activity against microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Picarbutrazox is a synthetic product that inhibits the RNA polymerase function. It also inhibits protein synthesis by inhibiting bacterial translation elongation factor EF-2. This inhibition prevents viral replication and thus prevents disease caused by viruses such as herpes simplex virus (HSV).
